Why do mosquitoes keep hovering over our heads?

Why do mosquitoes keep hovering over our heads?

Most of the mosquitoes hovering over our heads are female mosquitoes. Female mosquitoes are interested in carbon dioxide and other substances (including sweat, odor and heat) that we constantly exhale.

Mosquitoes have sensors on their antennae that detect these things and help them locate the source of food.

If we have thick hair and some aromatic substance like oil or gel is applied on them, then they are attracted by this too.

Mosquitoes like carbon dioxide a lot, so whenever you release carbon dioxide, the mosquito flying above the head likes its smell a lot. Attracted by this smell, mosquitoes keep hovering over our head.

Mosquitoes like the smell of sweat coming out of the human body. You have often seen that as soon as you come out after doing gym or exercise, a group of mosquitoes surrounds your head. Actually, there is hair on the head, so the sweat there does not dry quickly and mosquitoes take advantage of this.

Mosquitoes also like the smell of oil applied to the hair. As soon as mosquitoes smell the oil, they start hovering around your head.

Mosquitoes and some other kinds of flies usually mate on inanimate objects, such as trees. But sometimes they use the head of a person or other animal.

Mosquitoes are particularly fond of octenol (a chemical found in human sweat), so if we're sweating a lot, we're easy targets.
