Why does iron rust? Know the real reason behind this...

Since childhood, we have heard a saying from our elders that we should keep working otherwise just like iron rusts, our body will also rust. But have you ever wondered why and how iron rusts?

Iron is considered a strong metal but when it rusts, it is of no use. In childhood, we used to read about it as corrosion in science books.

That is, when iron comes in contact with oxygen and moisture, it reacts with them to form some unwanted compounds and the iron starts to deteriorate and due to this its colour also changes, this is called rusting of iron.

Corrosion means to gradually get destroyed. When any metal comes in contact with moisture, corrosion occurs. Corrosion of iron is a serious problem. Not only iron, but silver also gets a black layer.

While the green layer on copper is also called corrosion. To prevent corrosion, iron or other metals should be kept away from moisture. This increases the life of iron manifold.
