In Hinduism, the number 108 is considered extremely auspicious. Any rosary used for chanting God's name is made up of 108 beads. Why is this number 108 considered so important in Hinduism?

According to mythological beliefs, one of the reasons behind the number 108 being auspicious is that thousands of gopis were crazy about Lord Krishna. But out of these thousands of gopis, only 108 gopis were very dear to Lord Krishna.

Shri Krishna grew up playing with them in his childhood. These 108 gopis are considered to be the best friends of Lord Krishna. That is why the number 108 is considered auspicious.

The number 108 is also associated with Lord Shiva. When Lord Shankar is extremely angry, he performs the Tandava dance. Tandava is considered a supernatural dance in itself which consists of 108 postures.

According to Buddhism, there are 108 types of emotions in the mind. Every human being has 108 types of emotions inside him. For this reason also number 108 is considered special.

According to astrology, there are 12 zodiac signs in which 9 planets move. Multiplying 12 and 9 gives the number 108.
