What does science say, why do human hairs get goosebumps?

Or do you also get scared while watching horror movies and your hairs stand up? Or do you get goosebumps when you feel cold or shiver? Have you ever wondered why these goosebumps appear?

Goosebumps, which is called goosebumps in English, is a very common physical phenomenon which we have inherited from our ancestors. However, this amazing physical phenomenon was more beneficial for our ancestors than for us.

Goosebumps are caused by the contraction and shrinkage of tiny muscles attached to each hair on the skin. Each muscle that contracts creates a shallow depression on the skin surface, causing the surrounding area to bulge.

When goosebumps appear, the thicker and denser hairs spread out and trap a small amount of air that acts as an insulation layer.

Goosebumps are caused by the subconscious release of a stress hormone called adrenalin in the body.
